Here are the access facts the official sources confirm, in one place. Times are measured from Kiama Ridge Waters at 2 Surfleet Place.

Kiama Council's own easy read accessibility guide says its "accessible" labels do not mean a place fully meets the Disability (Access to Premises) Standards. Use them as a guide to whether a spot suits you, and call ahead if one detail matters, such as a ramp gradient or a door width.
See the Blowhole from paved paths and platforms

Blowhole Point is the easiest big sight in Kiama. Destination Kiama says paved paths and accessible viewing platforms make the Kiama Blowhole easy to enjoy, and Kiama Council lists Blowhole Point Reserve as accessible, with an accessible toilet, undercover picnic tables and a rock pool. There is a car park on the point, about a 6-minute drive (3.0 km) from the apartments.
From the car park you can reach the platforms, see the 1887 Kiama Lighthouse and call into the Visitor Information Centre, which Kiama Council lists as open 10am to 4pm daily except Christmas Day. Check before you go. Our Kiama Blowhole guide explains which swell makes it spray, and the Kiama Lighthouse guide covers the rest of the point.
Skip the Little Blowhole if steps or rough ground are a problem. Its official listing says it does not cater for people with access needs.
Stroll around Kiama Harbour and Black Beach

Kiama Harbour sits just below Blowhole Point, and Destination Kiama lists both the harbour and Black Beach as actively welcoming people with access needs. The harbour has a car park and public toilets, and the grassy Black Beach Reserve beside it has picnic areas. It is about a 3-minute drive (2.6 km) from the apartments to Black Beach, or a 30-minute walk.
The public toilets at the Kiama Boat Ramp have an adult change table. You need an MLAK key, which Destination Kiama says you can get from the Kiama Council Administration Centre or the Visitor Information Centre.
Destination Kiama's accessible travel page says the Continental Pool in Black Beach Reserve has ramp access and accessible parking. Its separate listing says it does not cater for access needs, so call the Visitor Information Centre before you rely on the ramp. Read more in our Kiama Harbour guide and Kiama rock pools guide.
Rest under the trees in Hindmarsh Park

Hindmarsh Park, at 107 Terralong Street, is the green heart of town and a good place to sit while the grandchildren play. Kiama Council lists an accessible toilet, picnic tables, shade, a water fountain and a stage. The 2024 upgrade added an inclusive trampoline, an inclusive seesaw, an accessible carousel and an accessible musical marimba, plus a new accessible pathway to the railway laneway.
Destination Kiama adds free barbecues. It is a 4-minute drive (3.0 km) from the apartments, and the Terralong Street cafes are close by. See Kiama playgrounds and Kiama cafes.
Drive up to lookouts with parking close by

You do not need to climb a hill for a big view in Kiama. Three lookouts let you park close to the platform:
- Saddleback Mountain: a 9-minute drive (6.8 km). You park at the top, and Destination Kiama's walks guide says both viewing platforms are wheelchair and pram accessible. Bring a jacket, as it is cooler up there. See Saddleback Mountain.
- Mt Pleasant Lookout, Kiama Heights: a 4-minute drive (3.6 km) on the Princes Highway, with a car park and picnic tables. Its listing says it is suitable for people with access needs.
- Sir Charles Kingsford Smith Memorial and Lookout, Gerroa: about 12 minutes by car, with a car park and views over Seven Mile Beach. Destination Kiama says it actively welcomes people with access needs.
For whales, Blowhole Point is the easy choice, with its car park and platforms. Whales pass the coast from about May to November. The Gerringong and Minnamurra whale watching platforms are listed as not catering for access needs. Read our Kiama lookouts guide and whale watching in Kiama.
Get onto the sand with a beach wheelchair

Kiama Council says a beach wheelchair is available from the Surf Beach Life Saving Club during patrol hours. Patrols run every day from the September school holidays to the April school holidays. Ask a lifesaver or the kiosk, or call 02 4232 2038 before you go. The council also lists an accessible toilet, showers, barbecues and parking at Surf Beach, a 3-minute drive (2.4 km) from the apartments.
Destination Kiama lists a second beach wheelchair at Seven Mile Beach Holiday Park in Gerroa. Ask at the park office or call 02 4234 1340. Ring ahead to check it is available.
Kiama Council and Destination Kiama don't list beach matting on Kiama's beaches, so don't plan around it. For warm water all year, Destination Kiama says the indoor pool at the Kiama Leisure Centre has hoist access, about 5 minutes away by car. See Kiama surf beaches for patrol and safety tips.
Choose gentle walks on formed paths

The Kiama Coast Walk is a mix of sealed paths, grassed tracks and beach walking. Destination Kiama's walks guide rates each section medium, with loose surfaces and steps in places, so it is not a step-free walk. These gentler options are easier on the legs:
- Kiama Historic Walks: 1.4 to 2.5 km one way, 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, rated easy on paved footpath, flat to undulating. Park at the Visitor Information Centre and use the Kiama Library Tours app.
- Bonaira Native Gardens: 600 m one way on flat, formed paths, with an accessible path through the forest, shade and picnic tables. Park at Bonaira Playing Field on Girrawheen Avenue, a 2-minute drive (0.9 km) from the apartments. The nearest public toilets are at Kendalls Beach Holiday Park.
- Spring Creek Wetlands: 1.5 km return on flat, formed paths, with a bird hide. Park at the end of Glenbrook Drive, a 5-minute drive.
- Minnamurra Rainforest: about 25 minutes by car. Destination Kiama says the first 500 m of the Lyrebird Loop suits assisted wheelchairs, but NSW National Parks rates the loop hard, so call the centre on 02 4236 0469 first. A vehicle entry fee applies. See Minnamurra Rainforest.

Ride the train to Kiama with a Gold Opal card

Kiama station is on the South Coast Line. Transport NSW lists a lift, a wheelchair accessible toilet, a hearing loop, a wheelchair accessible car space and wheelchair ramp boarding assistance, with staff on duty. Destination Kiama lists the station on 02 4223 5613 if you need help. It is a 3-minute drive (2.2 km) from the apartments.
With a Senior/Pensioner Gold Opal card, Transport NSW says you never pay more than $2.50 a day on trains, buses, ferries and light rail in the Opal network. NSW and ACT Seniors Card holders can use a Gold Opal card or link their concession to a contactless bank card. Interstate seniors must apply for a Gold Opal card first. Always carry your proof of entitlement, or you must pay the adult fare. Fares change, so check before you travel. See Sydney to Kiama and our Kiama parking guide.
Pace your day around heat, swell and hills

Kiama rewards a slow day. Here is one that keeps walking short:
- Morning: drive to Blowhole Point before about 10am, when the car park is quieter. Watch the Blowhole, then coffee near the Visitor Information Centre.
- Late morning: a short drive to the harbour and Black Beach for a seat by the water.
- Lunch: Terralong Street, then a rest in the shade of Hindmarsh Park. See where to eat in Kiama.
- Afternoon: back to the apartment for a break, then a gentle loop of Bonaira Native Gardens.
The town climbs away from the harbour, so drive between stops. On hot days go out early and carry water. Rock platforms are slippery and waves can wash over them in a big swell, so stay on paved paths and behind railings. Save our Kiama pharmacy and doctors guide. Check the Kiama weather before you set out.
Stay on the ground floor in a garden apartment

If stairs are hard going, book one of the three ground floor apartments at Kiama Ridge Waters, where there are no stairs to the door: Ground Floor Home in Kiama's Heart, 3-Bed Kiama Unit with Courtyard or 3-Bed with Alfresco Dining. Each one sleeps up to six in three bedrooms, with two bathrooms and parking for two cars. None is a certified accessible unit, so if you need specific features, such as a step-free shower or grab rails, contact us before you book and we will answer honestly.
Grandparents can take a garden apartment while the rest of the family books another one on the same site at 2 Surfleet Place. See family accommodation in Kiama and group stays for booking several apartments together. Check-in is from 3pm and check-out by 10am. Check availability.
