Kiama's massage studios and day spas sit in a tight cluster in the town centre, on Terralong Street, Manning Street and Collins Lane. You can book a treatment in the morning, walk to lunch and be back on the coast by the afternoon.

Every business below is trading now and lists its treatments on its own website. We've only included the treatment types each one publishes. Few publish prices online, so confirm the cost when you book. Hours change too, so check before you go.

Book a massage or facial at endota spa Kiama

endota spa Kiama is on the main street at Shop 1/124 Terralong Street, opposite Kiama Leagues Club. It's the most traditional day spa in town, with a long treatment menu and a dual room for couples.

The massage list on endota's Kiama page covers remedial massage (30, 45, 60 or 90 minutes), pregnancy, hot stone, aromatherapy, customised, Rest & Restore and Organic Relax. There's a full menu of facials, plus pedicures, lash and brow treatments, waxing and spray tans.

For a longer visit, look at the spa packages, such as Surrender, Body & Sole, Rejuvenate and Complete Renewal. Better Together is a 120-minute couples treatment that pairs a facial with a massage in the shared room, which suits a weekend away for two. It's about a 5-minute drive (2.8 km) or a 36-minute walk (3.0 km) from the apartments.

Pair a Thai massage with a float at Siam Balance

Siam Balance started as a Thai massage studio in 2014, according to Destination Kiama, and has grown into two linked businesses at 128 Terralong Street, opposite the Commonwealth Bank.

Siam Balance Thai Massage offers traditional full-body Thai massage and therapeutic massage. Its website says health fund rebates are available for major insurers through HICAP, and it links to a prices page for its massage and sauna rates. Check them before you book.

Siam Balance Float and Wellness, on Level 1 of the same building, adds the day spa side. Its website lists Dreampod float therapy, an infrared sauna, a private steam room and spa bath, cold plunge, cupping, LED light therapy and massage and facials, plus day spa packages and gift cards.

Both list the same hours: Thursday to Monday, 9.30am to 8pm, so plan around Tuesday and Wednesday. It's about a 5-minute drive (2.8 km) or a 36-minute walk (3.0 km) from Kiama Ridge Waters.

Drop in for a Thai massage at Koh Samui on Manning Street

Koh Samui Thai and Remedial Massage is at 35 Manning Street, near the Grand Hotel and next door to a noodle shop. It's one of the two closest studios to Kiama Ridge Waters, about a 3-minute drive (2.1 km) or a 28-minute walk (2.3 km).

The treatment list on its website covers traditional Thai massage, deep tissue and remedial massage, aroma hot oil, coconut hot oil and candle hot oil massage, hot stone, pregnancy massage, foot massage and a foot spa. Facial massage, body scrubs and packages are on offer too.

It's open seven days from 9.30am to 8pm, which makes it a handy pick for a Tuesday or Wednesday when some other studios are closed. You can book online through Fresha from its website.

Walk down the laneway to Total Kalm

Total Kalm Thai Massage and Spa is at Shop 6, 42 Collins Lane, among the heritage weatherboard shops behind Collins Street. Follow the marked laneway to find the door. It's about a 5-minute drive (2.9 km) or a 36-minute walk (3.0 km) from the apartments.

Its website lists Thai, relaxing, remedial, deep tissue and hot stone massage, cupping, and a back and head scratch. There are facial massages, body scrubs, a foot spa with massage, packages and couples massage. Bookings through Fresha are preferred, though walk-ins are welcome when there's a free therapist.

Collins Lane puts you a few steps from the small bars and restaurants on Collins Street, so it's easy to book a late afternoon massage and stay in town for dinner.

Mix massage with a float and sauna at Wellness & Recovery Haus

Wellness & Recovery Haus is at Shop 8/65 Manning Street, at the Surf Beach end of the street. It leans towards recovery sessions, so it suits anyone coming off a long coast walk or a weekend of surfing.

The services on its website are magnesium float therapy, a Clearlight infrared sauna, an iCool cold plunge, contrast sessions that pair the sauna and plunge, and therapeutic, pregnancy and lymphatic massage. It also offers Normatec and BOA compression, an AirPod Hydroxy oxygen and hydrogen session, Dermalux LED and a red light pod.

Hours on its website are Monday and Friday 8.30am to 8pm, Tuesday and Thursday 8.30am to 4pm, Saturday 8.30am to 6pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm. It's closed on Wednesday. It's about a 3-minute drive (2.1 km) or a 25-minute walk (2.1 km) from Kiama Ridge Waters.

Use the public sauna and spa at Kiama Leisure Centre

If you want a sauna or a warm soak without booking a treatment, Kiama Council's Kiama Leisure Centre at 1 Havilah Place has both, next to its heated 25 m indoor pool. It's about a 5-minute drive (3.5 km) or a 40-minute walk (3.3 km) from the apartments.

You book the sauna and spa through the centre's online portal, up to 25 hours ahead and at least 30 minutes before your session. Each booking is 30 minutes, with up to six people at a time. The sauna is for ages 16 and over. Children under five can't use the spa, and under-10s need an adult with them.

Council lists pool hours of 5.30am to 9pm Monday to Thursday, 5.30am to 7pm Friday, 7am to 5.30pm Saturday and 9am to 5.30pm Sunday. Casual prices are on the centre's pricing page, so check before you go.

Book a massage at your apartment with Soul Revival Spa

If you'd rather not leave the apartment, Soul Revival Spa is a mobile spa that comes to homes and holiday accommodation between Wollongong, Gerroa and Berry. Destination Kiama lists it among the in-accommodation options for visitors.

Its website lists massage and body treatments, facials and a style bar, plus packages and gift vouchers. Treatment hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm, with Mondays on request.

There's room to set up a massage table in any of the three-bedroom apartments at Kiama Ridge Waters. Give the address, 2 Surfleet Place, when you book and confirm the therapist can bring a table.

Plan a wellness weekend in Kiama

A massage is the centrepiece, but the coast does most of the work. Here's a simple two-day plan that keeps driving to a minimum. Book it as a Kiama weekend and arrive on Friday so Saturday starts early.

Saturday sunrise. Walk 15 minutes (1.3 km) from the apartments to Easts Beach and watch the sun come straight up out of the Pacific. Our Easts Beach guide has the details.

Morning swim. Drive about four minutes to the Continental Pool on Black Beach for a few laps, or six minutes to Blowhole Point rock pool. Both are Council ocean pools and unpatrolled, so read the Kiama rock pools guide and check conditions first.

Late morning treatment. Book a massage, float or facial in town for 10.30am or 11am, then have lunch nearby on Terralong or Collins Street.

Afternoon rest. Head back to the apartment, or ease into the afternoon at the Leisure Centre sauna if it's a cool day.

Sunday walk. Join the Mid section of the Kiama Coast Walk at Easts Beach and head south towards Loves Bay. Book your second treatment for the afternoon, after the walk, before you drive home.

Book your treatment before you arrive

Kiama is a small town with a handful of therapists, and Saturday slots go first, especially on long weekends and during school holidays. A few habits help:

• Book a week or two ahead for weekend appointments, and earlier for couples rooms or two therapists at once.
• Check opening days. Siam Balance closes Tuesday and Wednesday, Wellness & Recovery Haus closes Wednesday, and Koh Samui opens seven days.
• Ask about prices when you book. Rates change, so confirm the cost and any cancellation policy before you lock in a time.

Stay a short drive from Kiama's day spas
